What Is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda or Ayurvaid is an Indian medical science, ages more than 4500 years. The source of the science of knowledge “Ayurveda” is “Vedas”. This Vedas contains practical and scientific knowledge about Ayurvaid, which discussed about health – “Ayurveda”.

Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine native to the Indian subcontinent and a form of alternative medicine. By the medieval period, ayurvedic practitioners develop a number of medicinal preparations and surgical procedures for the purpose of treatment of different ailments. We can say practices that are derived from Ayurvedic medicine are regarded as a part of complementary and alternative medicine, from the basis for systematic medicine.

Obtaining  and maintaining the balance with the mind and body with the external environment is of the ultimatum of this knowledge. We all know that living in harmony with nature and in accordance with natural principles ensures complete physical health and peace of mind.

Ayurveda or Ayurvaid was also called “The Science of Eight Components:

These are:

  • General Medicine – Which is used to cure diseases affecting body.
  • Pediatrics – Which is called the treatment of children.
  • Surgery – Which is used to remove of any substance which has entered the body.
  • Opthalmology or ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) – Which is used to cure of diseases of the nose, ear, throat etc.
  • Demonology or Exorcism or Psychiatry – a treatment which is used of mental diseases supposed to be produced by past experiences.
  • Toxicology – System of antidotes. A branch of science concerned with the nature, detection and effects of venoms or poisons.
  • Aphrodisiacs –  is a substance that increases of sexual desire. Many food, drinks and behaviors have had a reputation for making sex more attainable or pleasurable.

In short we can say, Ayurveda or Ayurvaid is a unified system that encompasses all these aspects, it involves nothing more expensive or difficult than adapting your diet and lifestyle. Ayurveda or Ayurvaid is derived from two words, mainly, “Ayus” and “Veda”, understanding the meaning of both the words is important to fully grasp of this discipline. Where “Ayus” – is Body, Senses, Mind and Soul. These four factors are responsible for sustaining the life air in our body and each must be present in order to produce ayus. Whether any of the factors is absent we cannot alive. As we know very well that everything in the earth has physical body and soul. “Veda” – is knowledge or science.
